7 Window Cleaning Tips for Homeowners

Any building that has clean windows automatically improves the entire outlook of the place. Most people assume that cleaning windows is hard, but this does not need to be the case. Here are some pro tips on cleaning your windows, courtesy of Squeegee Pro window cleaning.

1. Use Vinegar

If you do not want to buy window-cleaning products, this is not a problem. You can always use vinegar and get very good results. Add some vinegar to the detergent you are using. Vinegar does not leave streaks on your windows so when it dries it will look clean and perfect. It also removes grease, so this is a plus. Another advantage of vinegar is that it is environmentally safe and does not contain any harsh chemicals so if you have pets or small children you do not have to worry about them touching or licking the window sill.

2. Use Rags or Old Towels

If you cannot afford professional window-cleaning equipment, you can use an old rag or towel to do the job. All you need to do is put the towel on a pole and wrap it tightly. You can use both ends of the towel to tie it tightly on the pole so that it does not come off when you are cleaning. Old towels do not have much lint, so you do not have to be worried about that. Get an old rag from a material that does not shed so that there will be less work.

3. Dish-washing Soap Works

Since dish-washing soap is made to remove grease, it is a perfect detergent to use to clean your windows. If you add some lemon to the soap you will have clean as well as fresh smelling windows. This is also safe for the environment and not harmful to your kids or pets. You can relax knowing that there is no risk of a child or pet licking chemicals from the window sill.

4. Dry Using Newspapers

The material used to make newspapers is ideal for drying windows and it will not leave any streaks or blobs of paper. You will need to change the paper when it gets too wet so that it does not break off leaving tiny pieces of paper on the glass. If you are cleaning your windows on a dusty day and are worried that dust will get to the windows before the water dries, then this is the perfect situation to dry using newspapers.

5. Get A Ladder

If you are cleaning windows that are very high, do not throw water from the ground. Climb a ladder and clean the glass appropriately. It is much better to clean from close proximity because you will be able to see any stains that you would miss if you are far away. If you are using a ladder, it is best to get a short pole because a long one will tire your arms quickly. Make sure that the rag or towel does not have too much water that can drip into your eyes or face when you are cleaning the windows.

6. Change Your Rubber Blade

If you are cleaning your windows using a squeegee, make sure that you change the blade frequently. This will ensure that there are no streaks left when you are drying the windows. Ensure that you get the appropriate size for the kind of window you are cleaning.

7. Use Steel Wool for Stubborn Stains

Steel wool is great for removing stains made by paint, especially at the edges. Cut a small piece of steel wool to rub against the stains. apply the detergent adequately to avoid scratching the glass.
